WATERTOWN, S.D.–The city of Watertown will soon be retiring the tagline, “South Dakota’s Rising Star” and the logo associated with it that have been used for years.

In search of a fresh new image, the city has been working with a design company called Simpleview on a new logo.

At a city council work session Monday, the group saw two options, one known as the Lake Kampeska version featuring waves in front of a setting sun, and the other the Bramble pheasant option featuring a ringneck pheasant.

Councilman Mike Danforth was not a fan of the pheasant option, saying its too seasonal in nature…

Mayor Ried Holien weighed in saying he too prefers the water-themed logo rather than the pheasant one….

No final decision was made on which logo to go with.

More discussion will occur at a future meeting.
