Watertown City Council holds first reading on medical marijuana ordinance  (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance Monday night that sets up the municipal regulations for medical marijuana cultivation, manufacturing, testing and sales.

City Attorney Matt Roby says a license will cost $5,000, half of which would be refunded if the applicant is denied a license. He went on to descbribe where dispensaries, or retail medical marijuana shops, will be allowed to be located…

Watertown’s ordinance calls for allowing up to three dispensaries. Community Development Manager Staci Bungard was asked how the committee crafting the ordinance came up with that number…

The city council will discuss local medical marijuana rules and regulations in more detail at an August 30th work session, and will hold a second and final reading on the ordinance at their September 7th meeting.
