WATERTOWN, S.D.—The Watertown City Council has approved a resolution that removes a requirement that city employees who work in non-critical positions live within 35 miles of the city limits.

But the vote was not unanimous.

Mayor Sarah Caron explained at Monday night’s City Council meeting why the resolution is being eliminated…

Councilwoman Beth Mantey says one neighboring city that’s already done this has found it to be a success.…

Councilman Jason Redemske doesn’t like the idea. He says if you work as a city employee in Watertown, you should live here too…

Councilman Ried Holien was also a “no” vote…

The resolution to remove the 35-mile requirement was approved on a 7-2 vote.
