Watertown and Deuel set to defend gymnastics titles

ABERDEEN, S.D. (News Release) — The 2020 State A and AA Gymnastics Meet begins today at Golden Eagles Arena in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Opening ceremony for the combined team competition will begin at 10:45 this morning.  The individual and all-around competition will begin at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Nine teams will compete for the A Team Championship.  Teams competing this year are Deuel, Estelline/Hendricks, Madison, Parkston/Ethan/Hanson/Mt. Vernon, Milbank Area, Wagner/Bon Homme,
Chamberlain, Vermillion and Hot Springs.

The Deuel team will be trying to defend their 2018 and 2019 championships and this year had the top qualifying meet team score with 142.875.   The top individual event qualifying scores are as follows: Paige Simon of Deuel had the top qualifying score on  the uneven bars with a score of 9.380, on the balance beam with a score of 9.43 and a score of 37.280 in all-around.  Rachel Blue of Deuel had the top individual qualifying score on the vault with a 9.35 and a score of 9.38 on floor.

78 gymnasts will be competing in Class A over the two-day state meet.

Nine teams will compete for the AA team championship. Teams competing this year are from Mitchell, Watertown, Brookings, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Lincoln, O’Gorman, Harrisburg, Pierre
T.F. Riggs and Aberdeen Central.

Watertown is returning to defend their team title this year and had the top qualifying meet team score with 147.450. The top individual event qualifying scores for the Arrows: Myah Morris with a score of 9.700 on vault, 9.550 on the uneven bars, 9.500 on balance beam and all-around with a score of 38.350.  Morris will try and defend her titles at vault, uneven bars, balance beam and all-around.

96 gymnasts will be competing in Class AA over the two-day state meet.
