WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Regional Airport (ATY) is on pace to draw about 18,000 passengers this year.

That’ll be a huge jump from last year when airport traffic was way down because of COVID-19.

At this week’s Watertown Airport Board meeting, board member MIke Tomlinson suggested that with a strong marketing approach, passenger numbers could grow a lot more…

Airport Manager Todd Syhre told the board that construction work on the new airport terminal building (pictured) is progressing nicely.

They’re getting the building enclosed before colder temperatures settle in, so crews can continue working inside throughout the winter.

The new terminal will open next summer.
