Walz blasts pharmaceutical industry over lawsuit on insulin supplies for diabetics

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota officials and insulin activists have blasted the pharmaceutical industry for suing to overturn a new state law mandating that drug makers provide emergency and longer-term insulin supplies to diabetics who can’t afford them.
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America filed the lawsuit just hours before the law took effect Wednesday.
The lawsuit sharply changed the tenor of a news conference that Gov. Tim Walz had scheduled to celebrate the law taking effect.
The Democratic governor says the industry is now “more hated than COVID-19.”
The lobbying group says it repeatedly raised its constitutional objections throughout the legislative process.
