Walz activates National Guard as powerful winter storm moves in

February 22, 2023

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Gov. Tim Walz Tuesday issued an emergency executive order to activate the National Guard as authorities urge Minnesotans to take warnings seriously about a dangerous snowstorm expected to hit the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of eastern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, and blizzard warnings for west central and southern Minnesota, including St. Cloud, Morris, Marshall, Mankato, and Worthington.

The Minnesota Legislature has canceled all business, including floor sessions and hearings, for today, Thursday, and Friday because of the storm.

The plan is for the legislature to resume its business next Monday.
