Updated number shows Lake Pelican continues to rise

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Mixed news on the flood fighting front in Watertown today.

City officials say the water level on Lake Kampeska was at 36.72 inches above full this morning. That’s about eight inches lower than the crest that was reached Sunday afternoon.

The Big Sioux River gauge at Broadway in Watertown is unchanged from Wednesday, and the river remains in moderate flood stage.

Lake Pelican is still rising. It was at 37.68 inches above full today, which is an inch higher than Wednesday.

There are currently 500 filled sandbags available for pick-up at the Codington County Extension Building.

The bags are located in the south parking lot, and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
