WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown police participated in Saturday’s “National Drug Take Back Day.”

Police Captain Steve Rehorst says 33 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs were collected in the police department lobby.

The Drug Enforcement Agency’s “Take Back Day” provided an opportunity for people to safely dispose of prescription narcotics.

National surveys have shown that most misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The drugs collected in Watertown will be taken to the DEA Regional Office in Omaha where they will be safely destroyed.
