UPDATE: Suspect charged in death of Moody County’s Chief Deputy Sheriff

FLANDREAU, S.D.–The suspect who was arrested in connection with Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok’s death was charged on Monday morning.

Forty year-old Joseph Hoek of Sioux Falls was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Eluding for Friday’s fatal incident.

Prorok (pictured) was killed during a police pursuit of Hoek on Interstate 29 near the Colman exit.

Hoek made an initial appearance in Moody County Court in Flandreau this morning. His next hearing is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9.

The 51 year-old Prorok has been a deputy sheriff in Moody County since 2016.
