WATERTOWN , S.D.–Spring road construction projects in this part of the world are extemely dependent on weather conditions, and the reconstruction of a portion of Highway 212 through Watertown is no different.

April 18th is the scheduled start date for Phase Two of the complete rebuild of Highway 212 from the Highway 81 intersection to 19th Street East.

But that’s a tentative start date that is subject to change.

During a pre-construction meeting yesterday, South Dakota DOT Engineer Bryce Olson said there was discussion about cold temperatures in the forecast.

That’s led to concern that has the contractor, J & J Earthworks, thinking the start date may need to be pushed back.

He says updates on the start date of the project will be determined closer to April 18th.
