WATERTOWN, S.D.—South Dakota could reach a new benchmark in COVID-19 cases this weekend.
The state has never reached the 4,000 mark in the number of active cases, but it is perilously close today.
The Health Department reports 386 new cases in the past 24 hours, putting the active case count at 3,987.
The number of South Dakotans hospitalized with the virus is at 220.
The death toll has risen to 237.
Codington County has waffled above and below the 200 mark in active cases. Today, that number is at 195.
There have been seven deaths in Codington County attributed to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
