SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–Sioux Falls police shot and killed a man following a stand off in the city Thursday morning.

Officers were called around 7:30 to a home on North Garfield Avenue, where they began negotiating with the suspect.

After those attempts failed to result in a peaceful surrender, the suspect, 52 year-old Elwood Dwyer, came out of the house and charged at officers while armed with a weapon, and was shot and killed.

Here’s police spokesman Sam Clemens…

The incident began after two adults and a juvenile showed up at a Sioux Falls hospital with stab wounds. The hospital then called police.

The South Dakota DCI is investigating the case to determine if the officers’ actions were justified.
