WATERTOWN, S.D.–It won’t be long until Watertown’s new Prairie Lakes Ice Arena opens its doors for the first time.
City Manager Amanda Mack says contractors are on schedule for an early 2024 completion date, at which time they’ll turn over ownership of the building to the city.
This is one of the most expensive projects the city has ever undertaken. The two sheet ice arena cost $36.5 million to build….
Mack says they’re anxious to get moved into the new arena, but they can’t jump the gun….
Mack says a grand opening is likely to be held in February.
The first major event to be held in the arena is the South Dakota Girls Varsity State Hockey Tournament March 1-3, 2024.
