UPDATE: One dead, one injured in Highway 212 crash in Deuel County

DEUEL COUNTY, S.D.–Authorities have released more details on a Tuesday head-on crash in Deuel County that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened on U.S. Highway 212, ten miles northeast of Clear Lake when a Chrysler Voyager and Ford Econline collided.

The driver of the Voyager, a 53 year-old man from Sioux Falls, was dead at the scene.

The driver of the Econoline, a 27 year-old man from White Bear Lake, Minnesota was seriously injured, and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened when the westbound Econoline attempted to pass a vehicle in from of him, and smashed into the approaching Voyager.

Names of the men involved have not been released.
