UPDATE: Man dies of injuries sustained in Codington County crash

WATERTOWN, S.D.—A Nebraska man has died of injuries sustained in an accident in Codington County last month.

It happened the night of August 31st on old Highway 81, 14 miles north of Watertown.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 67 year-old Leon Pies of Hubbard, Nebraska was driving a pickup that came upon a semi with an oversized load that was driving toward him.

The semi was pulling a tractor that was on a flatbed trailer. On the tractor was a silage blade that struck the pickup, causing it to crash.

Pies and a passenger, 65 year-old Patsy Pies, also of Hubbard, Nebraska, sustained life threatening injuries.

Leon Pies died of his injuries recently in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Two others in the Pies pickup, Roy and Dianne Nielsen of Marvin, were not injured.

The semi driver, 52 year-old Gerald Bury of Milbank, was not injured.
