UPDATE: Lake Poinsett campground remains open despite costly fire (Audio)

LAKE POINSETT, S.D.—KWAT News checked in today with Hamlin County Emergency Manager Dave Schaefer to get an update on that devastating fire that swept through a private campground at Lake Poinsett early Tuesday morning.
Schaefer says the rubble hasn’t been cleaned up yet, and that won’t happen until insurance adjustors finish their on-site work at the Spilde Campground next to the Dollar General store.
Schaefer tells KWAT’s Mike Tanner he knows there were several campers, boats, a pickup, ATV’s, golf carts and a small tractor that burned up in the fire, but he says the losses go beyond that…
He says the campground remains open…
He says there have been a lot of curious folks driving through the campground in the aftermath of the fire…
And Schaefer again commended the work of the volunteer fire crews that showed up in the middle of the night to fight a fire in very difficult conditions…
