UPDATE: Deadly South Dakota twister had peak winds estimated at 120 mph

ABERDEEN, S.D.–That deadly tornado that killed a man in South Dakota’s Hand County Sunday night when his RV was swept off a highway has been rated an EF-2 tornado by the National Weather Service.

An assessment team was in the field Monday surveying the damage.

The tornado had estimated peak winds of 120 miles an hour, and was 120 yards wide on the ground.

It initially touched down eight miles southeast of Polo. It was on the ground for just over one mile, tracking in a north-northwesterly direction.
