WATERTOWN, S.D.—A Hamlin County Grand Jury has indicted a Castlewood woman on more serious charges in the death of a two year-old girl.

Thirty year-old Josephine Raymundo (pictured) was initially charged with Felony Child Abuse.

On Tuesday, the Grand Jury met and indicted her on additional charges of First Degree Manslaughter, and Second Degree Manslaughter.

Additionally, the Grand Jury indicted 31 year-old DeJesus Raymundo on one count of Felony Child Abuse.

Emergency responders were called to a Castlewood home on June 2nd on a report of an unresponsive child. Jorgan Eagle Star was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In announcing the initial charges against Josephine Raymundo, South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg said there was evidence of, “ongoing child abuse.”

Witnesses testifying at Tuesday’s Grand Jury proceedings included investigators Darin Sinner and Cam Corey with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and Minnehaha County Coroner Dr. Kenneth Snell. Because Grand Jury proceedings are closed to the public, the details of their testimony are unknown.

Josephine Raymundo is free after posting bond. Her court-appointed attorney, Scott Bratland, tells KWAT News she’ll make an initial appearance on the manslaughter and child abuse charges July 21st.
