AURORA, S.D.–The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of a man killed last week in a freak accident in Brookings County.

Thirty five year-old Ramon Campos of Elkton was driving a pickup on Highway 324, three miles south of Aurora on Friday night.

A car coming from the opposite direction struck a deer on the highway. The animal was hurled into the air, and struck Campos’ pickup windshield, causing the pickup to crash into the ditch.

Campos was taken to the Brookings Hospital, and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died the next day.

The car that hit the deer was driven by 17 year-old Tyler Rasmussen of Elkton. He was not injured, nor were the four passengers in the pickup.
