SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (GoYotes.com)—North Dakota’s all-Summit guard Marlon Stewart hit a pull-up jumper with 10 seconds left to give the Fighting Hawks a 72-71 lead and South Dakota couldn’t convert on their end as UND pulled a 74-71 upset at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Sunday evening in the first round of the Summit League Tournament.

The sixth-seeded Fighting Hawks (14-17) avenged two double-digit losses to the Coyotes (20-12) during the regular season including a 77-67 loss in Vermillion last weekend on the final day of the regular season. It was North Dakota’s first win against South Dakota since 2011, ending a string of four losses within the Summit in that span.

Stewart’s jumper from just inside the 3-point line completed a nine-point comeback over the game’s final five minutes. His 21 points led all scorers and all five North Dakota starters registered at least 11 points.

Tyler Hagedorn had 17 points and Stanley Umude added 15 for South Dakota. Peterson finished with 14 and Cody Kelley chipped in 12.
