WATERTOWN, S.D.–The meteoric rise in gas prices has continued this week.

The national average jumped another six cents overnight, with AAA Auto saying it’s now a whopping $4.17 a gallon.

The statewide average in South Dakota is $3.79 a gallon, although most Watertown stations raised their price another dime a gallon Monday to $3.89.

The highest statewide average belongs to California, at $5.44 a gallon.

Patrick DeHaan analyzes gas prices for the website gasbuddy.com. He says prices could keep going up this week, to the tune of another nickel to 25 cents a gallon higher.

Most of the increase is being blamed on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and to a lesser extent, refineries switching over to a summer blend of gasoline.
