WATERTOWN, S.D.–The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) will determine this spring which destinations you’ll be able to fly to from Watertown Regional Airport.

Right now, those destinations are Denver and Chicago, and that might continue.

The Airport Board last week recommended the status quo for destinations from regional carrier Denver Air Connection.

An option to fly to Minneapolis-St. Paul is also on the table.

Councilman Mike Danforth wondered if the decision is more about enplanements, or connectivity….

City Manager Amanda Mack…

Councilman Glen Vilhauer, the liaison member to the Airport Board, says there’s a lot to consider…

The city can only make a recommendation on which routes they prefer. The final call rests with the USDOT.

Last year, just over 14,400 people flew out of Watertown, with 60-percent flying to Denver and 40 percent to Chicago O’Hare.
