WATERTOWN, S.D.–Tonight, the Watertown City Council meets to determine the finalists to become city manager, and there was plenty of interest in the job.

City Attorney Matt Roby says in an email to KWAT News that 29 candidates applied before the deadline.

Watertown’s consultant, Liza Donabuaer of DDA Human Resources Incorporated, narrowed that pool down to nine semi-finalists. One of those nine has since withdrawn from consideration.

More identifying information about the candidates will only be released once finalists are chosen tonight.

The city manager will lead the day-to-day operations of the city when the mayor’s position moves to part-time status following the June 15th election.

The three announced candidates for mayor are incumbent Sarah Caron, City Council President Adam Lalim and former assistant city engineer Colin Paulsen.
