JERAULD COUNTY, S.D.–A 12 year-old Wessington Springs girl has died from injuries sustained in a vehicle versus pedestrian accident last month.

It happened January 26th on Highway 34, ten miles west of Wessington Springs.

A car driven by a 20 year-old Wessington Springs woman was approaching a school bus that was stopped in the opposite lane to pick up a student.

There was heavy fog at the time.

As the flashing red lights on the bus became more visible, the driver of the car hit the brakes, but the highway was icy, and she slid into the 12 year-old girl who was crossing the highway to get on the bus.

The girl, identified as Reba Carothers, was taken to a nearby hospital, later transferred to Sioux Falls, and died from her injuries on Tuesday.
