Truck driver killed in crash east of Beresford

BERESFORD, S.D.(KWAT)–A truck driver was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash just east of Beresford.
The Highway Patrol says the semi truck and trailer were eastbound on Highway 46 when the driver swerved to avoid rear-ending a pickup that was turning into a private driveway.
The semi truck and trailer swerved into the westbound lane where it hit an oncoming semi.
The 76 year-old driver of the eastbound semi was thrown from the cab and died at the scene.
The other semi driver was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The eastbound semi was hauling ethanol, and a hazardous material team was called in to assist with clean up.
The crash shut down the highway for about six hours.
