WATERTOWN, S.D.–With Election Day now less than a month away, Watertown residents got to learn more about political candidates last night at a forum held at the Great Plains Lutheran theater.

The three District 5 candidates running for two seats in the South Dakota House took the stage to talk about their positions on various issues.

Kahden Mooney is a Democrat who has served as an intern in Pierre. He talked about what he’s been hearing from voters as he campaigns…

Republican Hugh Bartels is running for a fourth term in the House. He’s hearing about tight finances too, which means lawmakers in Pierre will need to react accordingly…

Republican Byron Callies is also in the race. He has a military background and has worked for Northwestern Energy and the Western Area Power Administration.

Callies is opposed to the legalization of recreational marijuana in South Dakota, and he’s been hearing about it from voters…

There’s an open seat in District 5 following Representative Nancy York’s decision not to run for re-election.

Election Day is Tuesday November 8th, although early voting can now be done at county auditor offices across the state.
