The 2020 Legion Baseball season takes another turn

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The 2020 legion baseball saga has taken another turn.

On Saturday, May 9th, South Dakota Legion Baseball Commissioners approved play for baseball in the state but with some conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That ruling was overturned on Sunday, May 10th by the American Legion National Organization who in a letter, canceled legion action for 25 states, including South Dakota.

The South Dakota Legion noted in that letter, there was a section open to interpretation on whether local baseball could be supported.  After receiving better clarification, the South Dakota Legion Executive Committee met in an emergency meeting on Wednesday and ultimately sanctioned American Legion Baseball for 2020 in South Dakota.

The Legion noted the teams must follow guidelines recommended by the State Athletic Commission which states teams must abide by local, state, and national COVID-19 policies.

Welcome back baseball!
