Texas woman sentenced in connection with Vermillion stabbing death

PIERRE, S.D.–Attorney General Marty Jackley says a San Antonio, Texas woman had been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges in a 2023 stabbing death in Vermillion.

Twenty year-old Chezayia Liggins was sentenced to 25 years, with 10 years suspended.

She received a 15-year sentence on one count of Aggravated Assault and a 10-year prison sentence on one count of Second Degree Manslaughter. Both sentences are to be served consecutively.

Liggins was charged for the July 2023 stabbing death of 47-year-old Christopher Bartling of Vermillion.
