SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (GoWatertown.ne) — Watertown girls tennis claimed fifth place as a team at the 2021 State AA Tennis Meet with 269 points. Rapid City Stevens was the team champion with 469.5 points.
Four singles and all three Arrow doubles teams would place.
Ellie Zink in flight one fell to Maya Jamous of Sioux Falls O’Gorman in the consolation semifinals.
Josie Heyn in flight two was defeated by Carly Comstock of Aberdeen Central in the consolation semifinals.
Jaida Young fell to Eloise Geraets of Harrisburg in flight three championship semifinals and defeated Bergen Quello of Sioux Falls Lincoln to grab 3rd place
Leyla Meester bested Alice Vogel of Aberdeen Central in the championship semifinals but fell to Rapid City Stevens Abby Sherill in the flight four championship to take home second place.
Grace Ortmeier downed Berit Hefti in the flight five consolation semifinals and fell to Emma Derynck of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the consolation finals to take home sixth place.
In flight six, Faith Berg was defeated by McKenszie Vickery of Harrisburg in the championship semifinals and fell to Grace Miner of Sioux Falls Lincoln to take home fourth place
Flight one team of Ellie Zink and Josie Heyn defeated the team of Ringgenberg/Vogel from Aberdeen Central in the consolation semifinals and downed the Sioux Falls O’Gorman team of Jamous/Garry to take home the consolation championship.
Flight two team of Jaida Young and Grace Ortmeier were defeated by the Harrisburg team of Geraets/Grabow in the semifials and fell Quello/Osterloo of Sioux Falls Lincoln to grab fourth place.
Flight three team of Leyla Meester and Sophia Nichols defeated Vazquez/Keller of Sioux Falls Jefferson in the consolation semifinals and bested the Aberdeen team of Gonsor/Galvin to claim fifth place.
Watertown girls tennis will graduate one senior, Grace Ortmeier.
