PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota House Speaker Spencer Gosch says he intends to appoint a 10-member committee that will investigate whether the conduct of Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg involved impeachable offenses pursuant to the state constitution.
Gosch says the committee will report its findings and recommendations to the House of Representatives by March 29th.
That’s more than two weeks after the legislative session is expected to be over.
Gosch says this is an unprecedented situation in the state and the process is subject to change. He says it’s crucial that lawmakers create an open, transparent and fair process for all parties involved.
Ravnsborg has been asked by several state officials–including Governor Noem–to resign from office.
He’s facing three misdemeanor charges for killing a pedestrian with his car near Highmore last September.
