BURKE, S.D.–A 16 year old boy has died in a two vehicle crash three miles east of Burke, South Dakota.

The Highway Patrol says it happened Friday night on U.S. Highway 18.

The teenager was driving a vehicle eastbound when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer.

The boy was dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The 29 year-old man driving the pickup sustained life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

No names have been released.
