PIERRE, S.D. – Throughout the month of July, a task force has been meeting to discuss the feasibility of getting back to high school sports this fall during the COVID-19 pandemic.. South Dakota High School Activities Association Executive Director Dr. Dan Swartos is part of that task force, which includes medical experts, state officeholders and school administrators.

Swartos said that administrators must be ready to change plans quickly if there is another outbreak of COVID-19.

Swartos and others want the flexibility of delaying activities to another part of the school year if needed.

Swartos said that he has recently visited with other state high school activities directors.

Swartos was asked whether the SDHSAA or local districts will issue guidelines for spectators.
