SUNDAY UPDATE: South Dakota adds 28 new COVID-19 cases; Codington County sees 10th case

PIERRE, S.D.–The South Dakota Department of Health reported 28 new cases of the COVID-19 virus in the state Sunday, the bulk of which were being reported in the state’s most populous county.

Twenty-three new cases were reported in the past 24 hours in Minnehaha County, bringing their total to 104. Eighteen residents of that county have recovered.

Other new cases were reported Sunday in the counties of Codington (one), Lincoln (two), Spink (one) and Turner (one). 

South Dakota now reports a cumulative total of 240 cases of COVID-19 statewide. Eight-four of those people have recovered. Twenty two South Dakotans have required hospitalization. 

South Dakota counties with the highest number of positive cases of coronavirus are Minnehaha (104), Lincoln (23),  Beadle (21),  Yankton  (14) and Codington (10). Four Codington County residents who were stricken with the virus have since recovered. 

The Health Department says 5,353 South Dakotans have tested negative.
