State AA girls tennis tournament set for Thursday and Friday

PIERRE, S.D. (SDHSAA.com) — The Girls’ Class AA State Tennis Tournament will be held in Sioux Falls, October 10th and 11th. Twelve teams have entered the tournament. Champions will be determined in six singles flights and three doubles flights over the course of the two days.

Johana Brower, junior from Sioux Falls Lincoln will return to defend her Flight 1 Singles title. Johana also was a part of the Flight 1 Doubles Championship in 2018, and will compete again this year with partner, Ava Leonard, a junior, who will also try and defend her championship title at Flight 2 Singles.

A new champion will crowned in Flights 3 singles due to graduation. Britta Quello, a senior from Sioux Falls Lincoln and the champion at Flight 4 last year, will move up to Flight 3.

Avery Blackman of Sioux Falls Lincoln, will try and defend her title at Flight 5 singles. 2018 Flight 6 Singles Champion Erica Wing, senior from Rapid City Stevens, has moved to Flight 1 Singles for 2019.

There will be new champions in all three Doubles flights due to graduation or movement of flights.

The tournaments will be played at McKennan Park and Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School courts. Play starts at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. Singles championship finals are scheduled for Friday at McKennan Park, followed by the doubles championships.
