South Dakota’s COVID-19 cases climbing toward 17,000

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota health officials confirmed 201 new positive tests for the conoranvirus, raising the state’s total to 16,639 cases.

The update released Sunday showed a 15% percent positivity rate on 1,347 tests. South Dakota ranks second in the country in the number of cases per capita in the last two weeks, according to the COVID Tracking Project.

The number of active cases are down 54 from Saturday, for a total of 2,461.

The report shows 110 people hospitalized across the state, an increase of one from Saturday.

Minnehaha County reported 35 new cases, raising the county’s total to 5,874.

In Codington County, there are currently 184 active cases.
