South Dakota traffic crashes claim lives near Hermosa, Salem

UNDATED–The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person has been killed in a crash involving a garbage truck in western South Dakota.

It happened five miles north of Hermosa.

The garbage truck was northbound on South Dakota Highway 79 and had slowed to make a right hand turn when it was rear-ended by a car.

The 56 year-old woman driving the car was killed.

The driver of the garbage truck was not injured. No names have been released yet.

Another person was killed in a separate single vehicle crash ten miles northwest of Salem when the driver of a pickup left a road and rolled into a ditch.

The 61 year-old driver was dead at the scene.

His name will be released once next of kin have been notified.
