South Dakota Legislative session enters its final week

March 8, 2021

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota lawmakers have just four more days to work out most of the details in this year’s legislative session.

As deadlines loom – and issues from the budget to medical marijuana and self-defense laws remain unsettled – many lawmakers are expecting some long nights at the Capitol in Pierre.

The top issues will be settling how to best use a massive windfall of one-time funds, several controversial bills that have been revived and how and when to implement the state’s voter-approved medical marijuana program.

Lawmakers return today for the final four days of the main run of the session.
