WATERTOWN, S.D.–Poor travel conditions that developed Tuesday night led the South Dakota DOT to close sections of both Interstate 29 and 90.

I-29 is closed this morning from the North Dakota line to Sioux Falls, and Interstate 90 is shut down from Sioux Falls to Mitchell. Additional sections of both interstates are expected to close today as weather conditions worsen.

No Travel Advisories are also expected to be placed on secondary highways throughout South Dakota due to high winds, blowing snow, and low visibilities associated with this winter storm system.

Motorists should not use secondary highways to avoid Interstate closures.

Travel conditions are expected to become very difficult, if not impossible, today, as snow will continue to fall, and northeast winds will gust over 50 miles per hour at times.
