South Dakota approaching 1,000 corornavirus deaths; one additional death reported in Codington County

PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota is about to go over a grim benchmark in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State Health Department says today that 995 virus-related deaths have been reported in the state, meaning South Dakota is likely to reach and go over the 1,000 mark this week.

One additional death has been reported in Codington County in the past 24 hours, raising the county’s death toll to 51.

That’s third in the state behind Minnehaha County (191) and Lincoln County (53).

The number of active cases in Codington County is at 492.
