Softball alignments, classification changes on SDHSAA Board Meeting agenda

PIERRE, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The Board of Directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association will hold their March meeting this upcoming Wednesday.

On the agenda is the consideration application for Cooperative Sponsorship of Activities between Hitchcock-Tulare and Doland in the sports of Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, and Track and Field, beginning with the 2022-23 school year.

Also on the agenda is the first reading of sports classification and alignments for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.

Some classification changes include Estelline/Hendricks moving up to Region 2A, Waubay/Summit moving up to Region 1A and Deubrook moving into Region 2B for the sport of basketball. The Redhawks and Mustangs will also move up into Class A and the Dolphins move into Class B for track and field and volleyball. For football, the only local classification change will see Sisseton moving into Class 11B.

Softball alignments will also be discussed. Watertown has been proposed for Class AA, Milbank, and Sisseton for Class A and Arlington, Castlewood, Clark/Willow Lake, Deuel and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland for Class B.

The board will meet this Wednesday, March 2nd at their SDHSAA office in Pierre.
