Six fire departments respond to Brookings County apartment building fire

AURORA, S.D.–No injuries were reported in an apartment building fire in Aurora Wednesday afternoon.

Fire departments from Aurora, Bruce, Elkton, Sinai, Volga and White all responded to the fire in the 200-block of East Pine Street.

Several residents were inside the building when fire alarms began sounding, alerting them to get out.

The building started filling with smoke and everyone was able to get out.

When fire crews arrived, flames were visible from the exterior of the building.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says crews were able to extinguish the fire after, “several hours.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damages are still being tabulated.
