ST. LOUIS, M.O. (Brookings Radio) — A shorter spring football season may make it harder for FCS teams to qualify for the post-season.

Missouri Valley Football Conference teams will have an eight-game schedule. Commissioner Patty Viverito says, with no non-conference games, filling at-large spots will be difficult.

Viverito says there’s an opportunity to increase FCS exposure nationally, since BCS teams played in the fall. But she says, with the volume of games moved to spring, it’s difficult to get more games on the major outlets.

Conference communications director Mike Kern says an ESPN Gameday-type show is in the works.

Kern says the Big Sky Conference will lead that project.
