Several departments fight fire at vacant farmhouse, barn in Brookings County

VOLGA, S.D.–Several fire departments were called out Sunday night to battle a barn fire that spread to a vacant farmhouse and nearby hay bales.
The fire was at 21575 459th Avenue southwest of Volga, and was reported just after 7 p.m.
Initially, deputies with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department and Sinai and Volga fire departments responded.
Later, mutual aid was requested from fire departments in Brookings, Elkton, White and Bruce.
Someone had been burning an old barn on the property with permission from the property owner, but the fire spread to the vacant farmhouse and hay bales.
