Senate bill would address zebra mussels in South Dakota waterways  (Audio)

PIERRE, S.D.–There’s a legislative bill in Pierre that’s focused on addressing the spread of zebra mussels (pictured) in South Dakota waterways.

Senate Bill 200 would appropriate $62,500 from the state’s general fund to purchase and construct five boat cleaning stations in the state.

The bill is opposed the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department, but not because they don’t think mitigating zebra mussels is important. Wildlife Division Director Tom Kirschmann says getting more decontamination units is not a priority for G-F and P…
