BROOKINGS, S.D.–Two semis–one hauling powdered cement and the other hauling sand–collided between Brookings and Volga Thursday morning, closing down a stretch of highway for several hours.
It happened just after 8:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 14 at 467th Avenue.
One of the semis was turning eastbound from 467th Avenue and was waiting for traffic when the driver was rear-ended by the second semi.
Both westbound lanes of the highway were closed for 2 1/2 hours and one eastbound lane was closed for three hours.
One of the drivers–59 year-old Kevin Schaecher of Aberdeen, was cited for Careless Driving.
The report from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department makes no mention of any injuries.
