SDSU’s College of Nursing ranked among nation’s best
BROOKINGS, S.D. (News Release) — South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing has been named to Nursing Schools Almanac’s list of top 100 nursing schools. The college was 11th in the Great Plains Region, 50th among public nursing schools and 100th nationally.
“South Dakota State University made our list of the 100 best nursing schools in the nation because of its strong performance across all three dimensions of our rankings: academic value, program breadth and depth, and student success,” said Christopher McMillen, editor-in-chief of Nursing Schools Almanac. “SDSU students have a very low default rate on their student loans, consistently just 4-5% for the past six consecutive years. This is proof of an excellent return on their educational investment.
“The College of Nursing offers the full gamut of nursing programs, including three bachelor’s pathways, four master’s specializations, four postgraduate certificates, and both DNP and Ph.D. degrees,” he continued. “BSN students have scored an impressive 92% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX licensure exam over the past decade, including a stellar 97.5% pass rate during 2019. Graduate students have performed similarly well on APRN certification tests.”
SDSU’s College of Nursing has options in Aberdeen, Brookings, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and online. Its baccalaureate, master’s and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
“These rankings provide validation of the high level of quality and value we are able to provide our students,” said Mary Anne Krogh ’85/’11 Ph.D., the college’s dean. “Our success is largely due to the fantastic faculty and staff in the College of Nursing and their innovative approaches to nursing education. This ranking demonstrates our commitment to excellence in developing resilient and excellent nurses in our graduate and undergraduate programs. We are proud to receive this recognition.”
South Dakota State uses the CareSpan platform in its nursing classrooms in Brookings, Rapid City and Sioux Falls. This partnership is the first of its kind, and SDSU is the only college of nursing currently using it for instructing students.
