BROOKINGS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — After a 21-4 season, South Dakota State Women’s Basketball is preparing for the 2021-2022 campaign.

The Jacks are the defending Summit League champions and coming off a season that ended in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

The team returns 13 members of last season’s squad, including all five starters and First-Team All-Summit selections Myah Selland, Tylee Irwin, and Paiton Burckhard. Coach Aaron Johnston says after their exhibition game against St. Cloud State, they are still sorting through part of the lineup:

Selland was named to the preseason watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year award. Her season was cut short after an injury in February 2021. Coach Johnston says there is no date for her return this season:

Johnston says the team is excited about the upcoming season:

South Dakota State will wrap exhibition play Thursday against Concordia-St Paul before opening the regular season at Frost Arena on November 9th against Green Bay.
