BROOKINGS, S.D.–South Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota have formed a new collaborative Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine leading to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree.

SDSU’s Director of the Professional Program in Vet Medicine, Dr. Gary Gackstetter says this new collaboration will focus on rural practices and help address a shortage of veterinarians…

He says under this program students will start their pre-vet work at SDSU and then complete their work at the University of Minnesota.

Gackstetter says by teaming up with the University of Minnesota, SDSU can address the needs of the region.

He says they hope to start their first class at SDSU in August of 2021.
