November 3, 2021

PIERRE, S.D.–The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have given final approval for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to be given to children between the ages of 5 and 11.

With that news, South Dakota Health Department Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon issued a statement saying:

“Protecting children against COVID-19 is a giant leap forward in the fight against this virus and a great way to protect those around them. South Dakota parents should talk to their child’s pediatrician to get trusted personalized medical advice and do what is right for their families.”

Sanford Health announced it will begin scheduling and administering the COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 to 11 beginning tomorrow (Thursday).
